AASHTOWare Bridge Design-Rating

The following AASHTOWare Bridge Task Force product update is provided to keep all AASHTOWare Bridge Rating and Design (BrDR) Software users apprised of recent activity related to the development of the software. The Task Force is committed to providing these quarterly updates to help improve communication between the Task Force and those interested in the product. The Task Force met in Boston, MA for their April (Spring) meeting. The following is a summary of the major items discussed during the meeting.

Issue Policy

The Task Force adopted a new issue policy to detail the processes for user reporting of identified software issues (JIRA) and contractor handling of same, as well as definitions of the issue types and priorities and what information is available via the support links. The BrDR Issue Policy is posted on the home page of the http://aashtobr.org/ website.

BrDR 6.7

Bridge Design and Rating version 6.7 is in Beta testing and is on schedule to release by June 30, 2015. The BrDR Testing TAG assembled at Michael Baker offices during the last week of April 2015 to run the software through its paces. Their assistance and commitment to the product is appreciated.

BrDR Modernization

Software Modernization efforts continue. It is anticipated that a solicitation to fund the BrDR Modernization project will be published for state participation in the summer of 2015.


The Task Force is assembling Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) which, when complete, will be made available online to all users to facilitate the sharing of information. The FAQs will be added to over time as additional topics and questions are encountered.

FMWA BrIM Initiative

The Task Force is working with FHWA and their initiative on BrIM (Bridge Information Modeling) through the sharing of the Bridge Design and Rating database structure. As FHWA progresses on their effort, the Task Force will continue to remain engaged in their initiative. Prestressed Design Tool

Development of the Prestressed Design Tool continues to move forward with an anticipated release in early calendar year 2016.

2015 RADBUG Meeting

RADBUG officers are working with the Task Force on the details of the 2015 User Group meeting (August 4‐5, 2015 in Albany, NY).

The Conference Agenda has been completed and is posted on the Agenda Page of the 2015 RADBUG Registration Website. The agenda is extremely comprehensive this year, including presentations on the status and future of the AASHTOWare Bridge Design‐Rating products, current and planned functionality enhancements, the life span of a JIRA ticket, End User presentations on using BrDR on specific projects within the DOTs, FHWA bridge program initiatives, and creating BrDR reports. In addition, AASHTOWare BrDR Fundamentals and more advanced BrD and BrR training sessions will be offered.   • Iowa DOT 3D Bridge Conference and Workshop ‐ April 14‐15,
  • AASHTO Subcommittee on Bridges and Structures (SCOBS) ‐ April 19‐24,
  • AASHTO Subcommittee on Information Systems (ASIS) ‐ May 18‐22,
  • International Bridge Conference (IBC) ‐ June 8‐12, and
  • AASHTO Subcommittee on Maintenance (SCOM) ‐ July 19‐23.
