AASHTOWare Project Implementation Update – Focus on AASHTOWare Project Bids™

August 28, 2018

The first AASHTOWare Project Bids enhancement release was delivered on June 29th, 2018. The release contains eleven enhancement TMRs including support for math in custom forms and new DBE bidding options and customizations. As most of you know, AASHTO developed the Bids software to replace AASHTOWare Project Expedite with an up to date modern code base and also provide enhanced functional capabilities. The Expedite software is reaching the end of it’s life cycle and will sunset effective June 30, 2019.

We are happy to report that 19 agencies have decommissioned the Expedite software and are using Bids in full production. Most of the agencies that have not yet replaced Expedite with Bids are either in the process of planning or have already began the transition and are working on completing the implementation. If your agency is one of those that has not yet completed the implementation, Info Tech provides free conversion of all configuration files to aid with the transition and will also assist with contractor communications throughout the process. Info Tech will work with you on your agency’s implementation schedule and other external demands throughout the process as well. We also encourage you to reach out to agencies that have already completed the transition and are in production. They can share their experiences and provide feedback along with lessons learned that may be useful to your agency as you move forward.

It is also important to note that due to the third-party licensing and royalty agreement with Symantec for the encryption technology contained in the Expedite software, all Expedite licensees will be required to certify that all copies of the Expedite software have been removed from their agency’s systems by the sunset date. AASHTO is also unable to provide source code agreements to allow agencies to maintain the software at their own risk and expense. Agencies that are not in production with Bids by June 30, 2019 will not be able to advertise a .EBS file (via the Bid Express service or otherwise) or accept any bids for their construction projects.

If you have any questions regarding implementing the Bids software or sunsetting Expedite, please contact your Info Tech Account Manager or Keith Platte, AASHTOWare Associate Project Director.
