The Research, Innovation and Project Improvement (RIPI) Program

May 16, 2017

A few years ago, the Special Committee on AASHTOWare® introduced a new program called the Research, Innovation and Project Improvement (RIPI) program. The purpose of the program is to help the product areas cover the expense of doing research and innovating as they improve their product lines, moving them into the future. These much-appreciated funds have helped AASHTOWare ProjectTM move forward in different technical areas quicker than what would have been available within the confines of using license fee revenue.

Some of the ways that the AASHTOWare Project program has benefited from the RIPI program include:

  • Performed third-party Security, Performance Testing, and Source Code Review of the web-Based AASHTOWare Project software.
  • Conducted a Materials Design Sprint five-day meeting.
  • Held a AASHTOWare Project Civil Rights & LaborTM summit for three days in Gainesville, FL.
  • Conducted a Technical Research and Proof-of-Concept for Additional e-Construction Items, identifying technical solutions that will help facilitate agency e-Construction practices in conjunction with the web-Based AASHTOWare Project software.
  • Developed Web-Based AASHTOWare Project User Requirements Specifications for the Enhanced Handling of Lump Sum Items.
  • Conducted Technical Research and Proof-of-Concept Services for Using Geographical Mapping Analysis in web-Based AASHTOWare Project.
  • Developed a proposal to Conduct Research and Provide Recommendations for Software-as-a-Service Business Considerations.
  • Performed Web-Based AASHTOWare Project Historical Data Performance Testing
  • Developed a research proposal on AASHTOWare Project Decision SupportTM Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
  • Conducting a Pilot of Key Analytical Services for the AASHTOWare Project Decision Support SaaS.
  • Creating and delivering 10 pre-built example Materials agency views for use with AASHTOWare Project 3.01.

Research results and recommendations from the RIPI projects can be found on the Status & Planning page on Cloverleaf®.
