BrDR Backlog Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
March 20, 2023As the use of the AASHTOWare BrDR software continues to grow, the number of ideas submitted by our users to improve the software continues to increase. In an effort to address and prioritize these issues in a strategic manner, a Backlog TAG was created to review, categorize, and prioritize each suggestion submitted by our users through our issue management portal, Jira. Each month this TAG, composed of a mixture of AASHTOWare Task Force members, contractor representatives, as well as other state representatives, meets to review the backlog of support issues filed within the Jira system.
During the TAG evaluation process, issues are triaged using the quadrant matrix to evaluate the list of BSSD issues submitted. Issues are classified into one of the four (4) quadrants:
Quadrant 1 – bugs will be fixed as soon as possible under the software maintenance contract.
Quadrant 2 – bugs will be fixed in an upcoming release, however, maintenance and enhancement items will be evaluated to identify potential implementation issues, identify related issues, establish a rough estimate, categorized, and prioritized by the TAG.
Quadrants 3 & 4 – for issues categorized in these quadrants, an option will be provided for state-funded service unit work and/or request that they volunteer to champion the effort to increase interest with other states. Otherwise, the user will be notified that issue will not be addressed and will be closed.
Additionally, these issues are categorized and ranked using a tier rating system. The Backlog TAG has met steadily over the past 10 months and thus far has reviewed and tiered 313 issues! It has been a huge effort and the results of their efforts will help the Task Force and the developers focus their efforts on the most important issues affecting our users.
