BrDR Analysis TAG Recent Activities At a Glance

June 11, 2026

The Analysis Technical Advisory Group (TAG) provides technical review and practice guidance on structural analysis applications, specification interpretation, and engineering approach to the AASHTOWare Bridge Design and Rating (BrDR) product.

Yihong Gao, Minnesota DOT, and Robby Tennant, West Virginia DOT, are serving as the Co-Chairs of the Analysis TAG. The TAG meets twice each month to review and provide guidance on the BSSD issues that are brought to their attention. If an issue must be addressed within the specifications, the Analysis TAG will reach out to the responsible AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures Technical Committee for resolution. Currently, the Analysis TAG has a total of 9 BSSD issues in the backlog with 5 issues in progress.

List of BSSD issues in progress:

  1. BSSD-5594 – Use of composite section properties to compute live load distribution factors for Type f and g cross sections
  2. BSSD-3560 – LRFD Longitudinal reinforcement check, Aps fps > As fy, for pretensioned concrete beams with simple DL1 and continuous DL2 & LL
  3. BSSD-5758 – Applicability of “Modify MCFT Theta” LRFR control option to “General Procedure – Appendix B5”
  4. BSSD-5523 – Validity of using moment LLDF for shear LLDF when range of applicability limit checks fail for adjacent beams
  5. BSSD-5539 – Implementation of lane-type truck pair legal load for shear-related specification checks and load ratings
