Enhanced BrDR License Mechanism

July 13, 2023

The existing BrDR license mechanism will be enhanced for version 7.5. Currently, BrDR utilizes a cloud-controlled network floating license. This means that the application can be installed on as many computers (physical or virtual) as needed. However, only your licensed number of “seats” can be connected at any one time.

Beginning with version 7.5, the license mechanism has been enhanced with a new desktop service. This allows an individual user on a single computer to open multiple instances of BrDR while only occupying a single network seat. The new AASHTOWare Bridge Design & Rating Desktop Service will be deployed while installing BrDR. This will occur automatically and doesn’t require any additional user input during installation.

As a part of this enhancement, all users, regardless of their license type, will be required to have an active license when running BrDR. The license can be activated and maintained from a new License window accessible on the login screen. The license can also be deployed with a silent installation package of 7.5. The silent installation does not require additional input or interaction from the end user.

Included in the 7.5 BrDR license enhancement, the XML bridge files will now be cryptographically secured. Modern hashing and encryption protocols will replace the existing checksum included in XML files. Additionally, license information will be included in the bridge XML file. This will help to prevent misuse of the license or breach of the license agreement. If an unlicensed import occurs, an error message will appear similar to below.
