FY 2022 AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design Enhancement

April 16, 2022

Two significant activities are being implemented for rigid pavements in FY 2022. A brief update on the enhancements is summarized below.

  • Integrating the results from NCHRP 1-51 on the bonding and interaction between the PCC slab and base layer.
    •  The integration of the new JPCP cracking model within the PMED framework has been completed. Detailed testing of the new model inputs and outputs are ongoing throughout the global recalibration efforts.
  • Updating the global calibration for PCC pavements. An update to the global calibration factors for PCC pavements hasn’t been completed for some time. The recalibration for PCC pavements is performed in conjunction with the integration of the revised models from the NCHRP 1-51 project. The recalibration will also use the MERRA climate data available through LTPP InfoPave.
    • The team has completed the recalibration of the CRCP Punchouts and IRI models and are finalizing the JPCP Cracking, Faulting and IRI model coefficients. Detailed testing and sensitivity analysis runs are ongoing and to quantify the differences between the old and new calibration coefficients.
