New MEPDG Training Course!

March 28, 2025

AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design heard your requests for a training course, and we’re thrilled to announce that our new AASHTO Technical Training Solutions course-Fundamental Concepts of the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG)-is now live!

This course introduces the mechanistic-empirical (ME) design approach and its advantages, including the integration of traffic and climate data for more reliable pavement performance predictions.

Learning outcomes of this course:

  • Explain how the MEPDG relates to the design and analysis of new and rehabilitated pavement structures for local, regional, and state highway transportation projects;
  • Summarize how mechanistic-empirical (ME) principles are applied when designing and analyzing pavement, and how pavement response calculations are used to compute incremental damage over time;
  • Describe the key data design and analysis inputs for ME trial design to accurately predict the accumulation of damage on the pavement design over time;
  • Summarize the key data collection and design strategies necessary for an effective ME trial design of both flexible and rigid new pavements;
  • Summarize the key data collection and design strategies necessary for an effective ME trial design for pavement rehabilitation plans; and
  • Explain the key activities in the analysis and evaluation design alternatives for new and rehabilitated pavement structures for local, regional, and state highway transportation projects.

In addition to this course, AASHTO Technical Training Solutions offers a catalog of over 260 courses covering topics such as construction, maintenance, materials, and more! These courses are available at no additional cost for members in the state-sharing program. You can learn more about AASHTO Technical Training Solutions here.
