PMED Feature Enhancement: Integration and Use of Recycling Options for Rehabilitation Design Webinar
December 12, 2024The second webinar of FY2025 occurred on Thursday, December 12, 2024 | 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. EST on Integration and Use of Recycling Options for Rehabilitation Design in the PMED Software.
The recycling options in this webinar included:
Full depth reclamation (FDR), hot in-place recycling (HIR), and cold in-place recycling (CIR) of the existing asphalt layers were not directly included in the PMED software as rehabilitation design strategies prior to fiscal year 2024. The use of FDR, HIR, and CIR, however, are common rehabilitation strategies for flexible pavements with extensive surface deterioration. One reason that in place recycling techniques have become popular within the past couple of decades is the focus on pavement sustainability and conserving resources.
To facilitate the use of recycling options in the PMED software, multiple users have requested that FDR, HIR, and CIR techniques constitute a separate rehabilitation design strategy. The purpose of this enhancement is to provide a rehabilitation design strategy users can select directly in the PMED software. The enhancement is referred to as the rehabilitation “recycling” design strategies of flexible pavements.
The learning outcomes of this webinar included:
- List the rehabilitation design strategies for the different recycling techniques.
- Recognize the usages and limitations for the different recycling options.
- Identify the input level 3 default values for the recycling options included in the PMED software.
- Model the impact on the asphalt overlay distresses when designing rehabilitation options using the recycling strategies.
