Spotlight on the Georgia Department of Transportation
December 12, 2024The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) initiated a recent local calibration of PMED design models for new flexible pavement, flexible pavement rehab, and new JPCP using the 3.0 web application. GDOT had previously conducted a local calibration in 2015 and performed further model verifications in 2021.
Using the PMS sections from the experimental matrix in the first calibration, GDOT updated the performance data collection.
The agency employed the Calibration Assistance Tool (CAT) internally to first check for verification, then later optimize calibration coefficients for performance models that required improvement. ARA assisted GDOT by reviewing the calibration files and running CAT analyses in tandem with their own efforts. The net result of this coordinated work was an overall reduction in PMED performance model bias with the latest version of the PMED software.
