SSO Now Available Upon Request in PMED!
March 31, 2026SSO (Single sign-on) is now possible in AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design (PMED) using a federated identity process. This process was successfully integrated with PennDOT utilizing PMED service units.
PMED utilizes SP (Service Provider) -initiated SSO to grant secure access to the platform. In an SP-Initiated process, the user authentication request is initiated by the service (in our case, PMED). Users utilizing this process are redirected to their agency system’s IdP (or Identity Provider), which performs authentication. The PMED system then “trusts” the authentication provider and logs the user into the platform.
The user simply visits the PMED site, gets redirected to their IdP at their agency, is usually automatically signed in via SSO at their agency, then redirected back to the PMED site, and is signed in and ready to use the application. This process reduces the number of usernames and passwords required for PMED users to remember and use, and relies instead on a SSO process which is usually already in place at their agency.
