What is a Strategic Alliance?
December 10, 2025In 2022 AASHTOWare launched the Alliance Program to fill functional technology gaps for members within specific AASHTOWare products, while also helping AASHTOWare fulfill its overall mission of supporting transportation agencies in their many endeavors. This program offers four types of alliances: Data, Integrator, Product, and Strategic.
Strategic Alliances provide a product in a new business area not covered by current AASHTOWare solutions. This type of alliance involves a deeper relationship and commitment with AASHTOWare, with greater coordination and co-branding.
AASHTOWare and ProMiles formed a Strategic Alliance in May 2024 to provide all AASHTO members the opportunity to license the oversize/overweight permitting and routing system and give increased feedback and recommendations for product enhancements. The product was rebranded as AASHTOWare PermitRoute.
One of the largest benefits to this alliance is the opportunity to form a Strategic Advisory Committee and User Experience Advisory Committee. Both groups give end users the ability to have direct input into the product, ensuring it is enhanced with the direction of state members needs in mind.
How does this Alliance change the software?
The new relationship between ProMiles and AASHTO has no impact on the software. The UI, customer support, and enhancements will all be delivered in the same manner as it was prior to the new alliance.
The ordering process is the only major change as a result of this alliance. Members will now order the software through the AASHTOWare catalog, similar to all other AASHTOWare products. This will help streamline procurement and the annual ordering process.
