June 10, 2026

We are pleased to recognize and extend our sincere appreciation to Susan Downing-Reed for six years of committed service as a member of the AASHTOWare Project Task Force. Throughout her time, Susan has played a vital role in advancing the development and implementation of AASHTOWare Project solutions used by agencies across the country.

Her thoughtful insight and willingness to collaborate have contributed meaningfully to the Task Force’s successes. Whether helping guide system enhancements, representing user needs, or supporting long-term strategic planning, Susan has consistently brought professionalism and dedication to every discussion.

The work of the Task Force has a direct and lasting impact on the transportation community, and contributions like Susan’s strengthen the tools and systems so many rely on each day. We are very grateful for the time, energy, and expertise she has invested over the past six years.

Please join us in thanking Susan Downing-Reed for her outstanding service and ongoing commitment to the AASHTOWare Project community.

Following Susan’s departure, Melissa Fink, District Contract Manager for Virginia DOT’s Hampton Roads District, will join the PTF. She began her career as a field inspector working from project trailers, running estimates in SiteManager, and managing stacks of hardcopy records. Back then, field books ruled the day, and iPads weren’t even a thought, so embracing new technology quickly became a professional interest. It was clear there was plenty of room to grow.

That curiosity paid off. Melissa’s knowledge of AWP Construction now runs deep, blending system expertise with a strong grasp of the business processes behind it, becoming a trusted key resource in VDOT’s construction program. Melissa also serves on VDOT’s SME board, which oversees configurations and legacy customizations for the state’s hosted implementation of AASHTOWare Project modules.

When she’s off the clock, Melissa leans into her favorite guilty pleasures, binge watching reality TV or diving into true crime stories!

We would also like to express our gratitude to the Virginia Department of Transportation for making this contribution possible by providing agency staff to serve in these roles. The support of the Virginia DOT ensures that the Task Force benefits from practical experience, real-world expertise, and a strong connection to the users who rely on AASHTOWare Project every day. This partnership strengthens the entire program and helps deliver better tools and outcomes for the transportation community.

Please join us in thanking Susan and Melissa and the Virgina DOT for their outstanding commitment, collaboration, and service to the AASHTOWare Project community.
