2025 AASHTOWare Prismatic Legacy Award – Charles Groshens, MNDOT

May 27, 2025

The AASHTOWare Prismatic Legacy Award is our chance to showcase the impact and legacy that our volunteers create throughout the AASHTOWare community.

This year, transportation industry has experienced significant change and growth. What sets the AASHTOWare community apart is its remarkable ability to embrace these challenges and improve our products.

This year’s award recipient has been an integral part of the AASHTOWare journey through his decades of transformation. His involvement dates to the 1990s when he was a member of the original state group that conceptualized the Civil Rights and Labor (CRL) module for AASHTOWare Project.

Throughout his years of dedicated volunteer service, he has taken on numerous leadership roles, including Technical Review Team Labor Group Leader, Technical Advisory Group Coordinator, Project User Group Vice Chair, and, most recently, a member of the Project Task Force. To say he has helped shape AASHTOWare Project into what it is today would be an understatement. His contributions have strengthened the product and fostered the growth of the AASHTOWare Project community.

When reflecting on his time volunteering, he described it as “a lot of fun,” often highlighting the friendships he built along the way and the satisfaction of solving new challenges.

This year’s recipient has dedicated countless hours, along with his vast knowledge, charisma, and wisdom, to the AASHTOWare Project community. It is volunteers like him who make AASHTOWare so much more than software. Through commitments like his, AASHTOWare becomes a community where individuals support one another, learn and grow together while sharing best practices to improve DOT processes.

We are honored to announce Charlie Groshens of the Minnesota Department of Transportation as the 2025 Prismatic Legacy Award Winner!
