AASHTO to Host Two Product Improvement Summits
November 19, 2019User Experts to Assess Insufficient Materials and Alternative Contracting Software Needs
During the 2018 PUG conference, the joint AASHTOWare Project Construction & Materials™ Technical Advisory Group (TAG) passed a resolution to request a product improvement summit for AASHTOWare Project Construction and Materials. As a result of this resolution, AASHTO is hosting two summits this Winter: 1) The evaluation of materials insufficiency and 2) Alternative contracting methods.
These 3-day summits will bring together over 35 attendees from AASHTOWare Project™ agencies, AASHTO, and Infotech, all with the objective of identifying improvements to the AASHTOWare Project software for their respective areas. A major goal of these summits is to focus on how existing functionality can be leveraged in previously unconsidered ways.
AASHTOWare Project Construction & Materials Insufficient Materials Product Improvement Summit
This summit will take place on December 3 – 5, 2019, in Gainesville, Florida, and will focus on the following areas:
- Evaluate current materials insufficiency software functionality with the intent to identify agency business cases and possible approaches to resolving issues.
- Reexamine existing Ticketed Modification Requests (TMRs) to reduce complexity and scope.
- Review past agency survey results to identify pain points, workarounds, and potential solutions.
AASHTOWare Project Construction & Materials Alternative Contracting Product Improvement Summit
Hosted by the Minnesota DOT, this summit will take place on January 14 – 16, 2020, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and focus on the following areas:
- Evaluate current alternative contracting software functionality with the intent to identify agency business cases and possible approaches to resolve issues.
- Reexamine existing TMRs to reduce complexity and scope.
- Review past agency survey results to identify pain points, workarounds, and potential solutions.
- The focus will be on the following alternative contracting methods: Design Build, Lump Sum Contract, Job Order, Indefinite Delivery-Indefinite Quantity, Construction Manager/ General Contractor, Bid Factors, and Vertical Construction.
At the conclusion of each summit, results and recommendations will be provided to the Project Task Force (PTF) to inform product improvements.
