User Community Spotlight – Ken Sereduk
November 21, 2024AASHTOWare Project is proud to spotlight Ken Sereduk, an Infrastructure Engineer with the Idaho Transportation Department. Ken has been with the department for 14 years, 10 of which he has been an active member of the AASHTOWare Project User Community. Over the past 4 years, Ken has taken on various roles within the community, including being a member of an Agile Enhancement Team, Co-Coordinator for the Construction Technical Advisory Group (TAG), Vice Chair of the Project User Group (PUG), and, most recently, Chair of the PUG.
Ken says the most fulfilling aspect of volunteering has been the opportunity to connect with others in the user community. Building strong relationships and friendships with fellow agency members has proven invaluable, creating a network of support and shared knowledge. He shares that the experience has provided him with valuable insights into the intricate administrative processes that sustain the AASHTOWare Project, deepening his appreciation for the collective effort needed to ensure its success. Each interaction and new connection have been a chance to learn and collaborate, making the volunteering experience both personally and professionally enriching.
Reflecting on his motivation for continued involvement, Ken adds, “I am gaining friends and helping colleagues while being part of a large community of like-minded individuals. The professional experiences I am gaining help improve my own career, and I enjoy the challenge of helping to shape the future direction of the application. Most importantly, I love helping others—it’s a big part of why I became a public servant. I take pride in knowing that I am contributing to making everyone’s lives easier through the improvement of our nation’s transportation systems.”
When asked if he has any advice for those considering volunteering for the AASHTOWare Project, Ken shared; “I think that the experience gained from volunteering is well worth the investment. The education and knowledge gained can help overcome future obstacles in almost any facet of life. The friendships and contacts made can improve your personal and professional life on many levels. I highly recommend volunteering to anyone, as it not only helps others but can also benefit you.”
On behalf of the AASHTOWare Project Task Force (PTF) and the User Community, thank you, Ken, for all that you do!
