Event description: Safety throughout the State DOT and Project Life Cycle. The objective of the summit is to identify opportunities to institutionalize explicit consideration of safety throughout state DOT decisions and activities. Through interactive sessions, attendees will help develop an AASHTO action plan that will disseminate current noteworthy practices and prioritize the development of additional tools and other resources needed to support an evolution toward a more safety-focused transportation system.
The summit will highlight state examples from the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance phases of projects, with common themes including consideration of all road users; incorporating principles of the safe system approach; performance management; data and analysis; and other common challenges and needs. Poster sessions will highlight innovative thinking in safety across DOT disciplines.
